The Valley Drive construction project that began July 2, 2018, was scheduled to be substantially complete March 30, 2020, but final work continued into early April. The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) project – Valley Drive is N.M. Highway 188 – will cost $24 million, about $1 million above the original cost estimate. NMDOT District One Public Information Officer Ami Evans said the increase was the result of “issues with the base of the roadway” and utilities. “NMDOT thanks the drivers of Las Cruces for their continued patience during this important improvement project and for driving carefully in our construction zones.” AUI, Inc. has been the project’s principal contractor.
