THE BRIDGE OF SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO

The Bridge scores grant funds to help students

Posted

The work underway in Doña Ana County to build strong, seamless pathways between education, employment in well-paying careers and economic development secured an important boost from a longtime partner in innovation in Southern New Mexico.

The Colorado-based Daniels Fund awarded $50,000 to The Bridge of Southern New Mexico to support The Bridge and its mission-aligned Workforce Talent Collaborative in continuing its state-leading efforts. Specifically, the grant in intended to strengthen career and technical-education (CTE) programs and workforce development efforts aligned to the best careers in the county in the fields of aerospace/defense, digital media, healthcare, value-added agriculture, transportation/logistics, advanced manufacturing and energy.

Like The Bridge, the Daniels Fund believes in the promise and potential of New Mexicans. During the next year, we’ll seek to cultivate more partnerships and hands-on, work-based learning opportunities for our CTE students. Thanks to the active partnership of our business community, we are well positioned to develop and deploy new ways for students to experience what may be their future careers.

The grant also supports The Bridge in finishing its work to clearly map the workforce needs of the eight industries targeted for economic development, increase awareness and use of the one-stop information resource NewMexicoTrueTalent.com and support the county’s districts in attracting more students into CTE programs and the Gadsden Blended Senior Year pilot.

“Traditionally, the Bridge has been a leader in the creation and implementation of strong workforce development direction for programs, specifically to align with the careers in the region,” said Debbi Moore, chair of The Bridge’s board of directors and President/CEO of the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce.  “During this unprecedented COVID pandemic time, The Bridge has become an influencer and leader the state and nation for community-focused job creation and economic recovery.”

The Daniels Fund, established by cable television pioneer Bill Daniels, is a private charitable foundation dedicated to making life better for the people of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming through its grants program, scholarship program, and ethics initiative.
