THOMAS BRANIGAN MEMORIAL LIBRARY

Thomas Branigan Memorial Library launches seed library

Posted

The Thomas Branigan Memorial Library is pleased to unveil a pop-up seed library! The Tierra Sagrada Seed Library (named after the mural in the Library’s amphitheater) is created to encourage Las Crucens to learn more about local food systems and regionally-adapted community seed saving projects.

Starting August 3, the Tierra Sagrada Seed Library will be available during curbside hours (between 9 a.m. and noon, Monday thru Friday) throughout August and September, while supplies last. Each library patron is allowed to check out 5 packets of seed per season on library cards. There is no return date but patrons are encouraged to learn how to save seeds and eventually make a seed donation back to the seed library. Beginning August 3, visit the library’s webpage and click on “Seed Library” for more information and a listing of available fall seeds. Fall seed offerings are largely regional and growing season appropriate.

The Tierra Sagrada Seed Library will return in the early spring of 2021 with programming and more seeds! Community members who are interested in donating seed are asked to fill out a donation form to provide information on seed provenance and cultural history. Help us build a regionally-adapted community seed saving project!

For more information or to register for the program, contact the Reference Department at (575) 528-4005 or library.reference@las-cruces.org.
