Upcoming poetry events include city councilors

Las Cruces Mayor Pro Tempore Kasandra Gandara and City Councilors Gill Sorg, Yvonne Flores and Johana Bencomo are expected to participate in “Poetry Night: Abrazos para el Corazon (Hugs for the Heart,”), a poetry night focused on mental health and sponsored by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Southern New Mexico, which is based in Las Cruces.

The event will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, at Art Obscura Gallery, 3206 Harrelson St.

The event will include door prizes, an art auction and a panel of mental health experts answering questions about NAMI and mental health services.

In addition to members of the city council, the event will include poetry and musical performances by

Liz Liano, Desirae Price, Nicholas Roche, Chauncey and Saul.

There is no charge to attend the Dec. 9 event, but donations are requested.

A poetry and music event called Lazorko Studio Showcase will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10. Performers will include Liz Liano, Era Snow, Pie Music, Cuerdas and The Men from Mars. There is no charge to attend. “Happy to Be Here,” a poetry and music event that is a celebration of life and sobriety, will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, at Art Obscura Gallery. It will include performances by Liz Liano, Nicholas Roche, Desirae Price, Chauncey and Saul.

There is no charge to attend the Dec. 16 event, but donations are requested.
