GILA NATIONAL FOREST

Update on Little Walnut East and West, and Gomez Peak

Making Your Reservations on Recreation.gov

Posted

The Gila National Forest, Silver City Ranger District group use sites at the Gomez Peak area remain closed to group uses. This includes the Little Walnut East and West Picnic areas and the Gomez Peak pavilion. The Forest is transitioning these sites to our online reservation system, Recreation.gov, however, they are not yet “live” on the Recreation.gov system.

District Ranger Beth Ihle has identified that there are first-come/first-serve picnic facilities in a portion of the Little Walnut area in the interim. She expects the reservation system for the three group use areas to be available by the end of May and appreciates everyone’s’ patience during the transition to the online/telephone system of reservation.

As soon as the sites are live and working on Recreation.gov, the Gila NF will put out another news release and posts on social media for you to make your reservation. What you can do in advance -- set up your user account on Recreation.gov.  Make sure you have a user ID and password to meet their specifications. Then when the sites are live – you can plan your celebration!
