Aggie swimmers, divers finish fourth at WAC championship meet

HOUSTON – The Aggies' stay in Houston concluded on a day in which they added a pair of podium finishes to their list of accomplishments for the week. With a second-place finish in the final event of the evening, the Aggies secure a fourth-place finish at the WAC Championships – totaling 476 points over four days of competition at the CRWC Natatorium on the campus of the University of Houston.

The day's successes started even before finals began as Maude Boily-Dufour set a new program record in the 200-yard back prelims as she posted a time of 1:57.23 to claim the top spot entering finals. In the finals, Boily-Dufour finished behind only one other swimmer as she turned in a time of 1:57.73 to earn a silver medal in the event.

Late, the quartet of Aimee Burton, Airam Oliva-Aun, Lindsay Puhalski and Neza Kocijan teamed up to the fastest 400 free relay time in program history with Kocijan reaching the final wall at 3:20.06.

During the day, NM State's Molly Hill also battled her way to a seventh-place finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:04.37.

The Aggies also had a trio of swimmers reach the finals in the 100 free as Aimee Burton took fourth (50.16), Neza Kocijan placed seventh (50.78) and Airam Oliva-Aun landed in eighth (51.44).

"Although our overall point total wasn't where we wanted it to be, we've got so much to be proud of," said Head Coach Rick Pratt. "Five school records, high amount of personal best's and a large senior group that left everything they had in the pool. That last relay was the best swim of the weekend and to see that group smash our school record like that was a sign of our determination and resilient culture."
