Aggie basketball officially tipped off Monday night, with both the NM State men and women playing big-name power schools.

The Aggie women fell to Arizona 68-57 in front of a good crowd at the Pan American Center.

The Aggie men fell to 16th-ranked Kentucky 86-46 on the road at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky.

For both squads, it was a tale of two halves.

The Aggie men held their own in the first half, down just 37-29 at the break. Kentucky, though, got rolling in the second half en route to a 40-point victory. The Aggies were led by Jaylin Jackson-Posey and Christian Cook with 10 points each, the only NM State players to hit double figures.

The Aggie women had their difficulties in the first half, and were down 35-23 at halftime. NM State particularly struggled in the first quarter, scoring just six points. The second half was a different story, as the Aggies outscored Arizona 34-33 in the second half. Molly Kaiser led the Aggies with 22 points, and Sabou Gueye added 13.

The Aggie men return for their home opener at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, against Sul Ross State in the Pan American Center. They’ll be home again for a game at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, against Western New Mexico.

The women are on the road for games Nov. 10 and 12, but are home again for a 2 p.m. game Saturday, Nov. 18, against Portland State.
