PALM DESERT, Calif.  – NM State found it’s rhythm and shot up the Wyoming Desert Invitational leaderboards on Thursday. Coming into the day in 11th place after the opening round, the Aggies shot 284 (-4) as a team to climb into a tie for fourth place. 

The Aggies are tied with No. 49 Boise State with one round of competition left. NM State is chasing co-leaders Charlotte and No. 45 Nevada by eight shots as they enter the final day. 

With one day left to play, the Aggies find themselves ahead of all current and future WAC opponents. NM State (597) sits above Seattle U (580), Dixie State (592), and future member Southern Utah (613). 

Round Two 

  • Aidan Thomas finds himself in a tie for second place after shooting 69 (-3) on Tuesday. Thomas birdied four holes, including a clutch shot on seventeen to pace the way for the Aggies. 
  • Thomas is in prime position to post his third top-ten finish of 2021-22. Thomas also won the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of New Mexico. 
  • Garrison Smith finds himself tied for 11th place after a four-birdie round on Tuesday. Smith shot a 71 (-1) to match his score from the opening round.
  • Matthew Jackman caught fire on the back nine, birdieing three consecutive holes between thirteen and fifteen. 
  • Finishing with an even 72, Alvaro Morales and Joseph Robson both played a consistent round of golf. Morales bounced back from a tough first day and managed to climb 21 spots on the leaderboard. Robson finishes the second round in a tie for 32nd place.
