“Culture of Empowerment: Know Your Rights: LGBTQAI+ with the ACLU”

Everyone has basic rights under the U.S. Constitution and civil rights laws. Learn more about what rights people in the LGBTQAI+ community hold, how to exercise them, and what to do when rights are violated.


“History Notes: Bracero Program”

Thursday, April 8, 1-2pm (MST)

Discover history and culture through a monthly informal discussion series on the second Thursday of each month at 1pm. From April through June, the theme is “History of Agriculture.” In this presentation, Dr. Yolanda Levya of the University of Texas at El Paso explores the history of the Bracero Program. The Bracero Program was a work program between the U.S. and Mexico that guaranteed Mexican workers minimum wage, good living conditions, a savings account in Mexico, and safety from forced military service. “What’s the Word: Arabic - A Trip to Morocco”

Thursday, April 8, 5:30-6:30pm (MST)

Learn language through culture! Dive into the history and traditions of Morocco while learning and practicing Arabic language skills. These are not formal classes but provide opportunity for learning and conversation between beginner and more experienced participants. Register to attend by emailing Kayla at kmyers@las-cruces.org.


“Day of Dance”

Tuesday, April 27- Saturday, May 1, 5:30-6:30pm (MST)

Day of Dance is a global celebration of all that is dance! Dance is a window into culture and humanity, it makes us move and breathe, and it can express a whole range of emotions from joy to grief. Register to participate in free dance classes in a variety of dance styles each evening. Classes are open to all ages and skill levels. Tuesday is Ballet Folklorico with Corazon de Las Cruces, Wednesday is Meditation Dance with Joshua Rex Vanderhoof, Thursday is Flamenco with Amalyah Leader, Friday is Hip Hop with Michelle Coyle, and Saturday is Sign Language Dance with Kristin Coates.
