Arts Council continues Space Festival art show

Posted

The Doña Ana Arts Council (DAAC) is continuing to exhibit artwork from the third annual Las Cruces Space Festival online art show, Dawn of Discovery, in April on the Staszewski Library and Gallery wall in DAAC’s Arts and Cultural Center, 250 W. Amador Ave.

DAAC recently dedicated this space in its gallery to Eugenia and Wanda Staszewki for their support of regional arts, DAAC Executive Director Greg Smith said.

“The sisters, in particular, loved music and supported the Las Cruces Symphony as well as other causes,” he said.

“The Space Festival was postponed last March due to the pandemic,” Smith said. “However, Spaceport America Public Relations Coordinator Alice Carruth, who serves as festival director, and DAAC Program Manager Karen Conley felt the work was too good not to share.”

The show included almost 90 pieces of artwork from international and local artists portraying the beauty of the Universe and the excitement of space exploration, Smith said.

In May 2020, the online show was launched with help from NMCO Media. The online show can be viewed at https://lcspacefestival.com/gallery/.

“DAAC offered up space to exhibit selected works from March through May 2021,” Smith said. Artists to be showcased in April include Kathleen Deasy, Linda Heath, Rachel Lowes, Cheryl Nelson and Leslie Toombs.  Additional work will be shown in May.

DAAC’s regular business hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. It will also be open noon-5 p.m. Saturday, April 10. Public health orders are enforced.
