Terrifying Tomes! Horror Book Club meets at Thomas Branigan Memorial Library

The Las Cruces Public Library’s Terrifying Tomes! Horror Book Group continues at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 20, in the second-floor conference room of the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library, 200 E. Picacho Ave.

Terrifying Tomes! is part of an ongoing, rotating speculative fiction book club that meets every third Saturday. If you love a good scare, this is the book club for you. Each month the group discusses the books they’ve previously read or are currently reading.

Because there is not an assigned title that everyone reads, it’s more of a fun, easy going discussion of likes, dislikes, and recommendations.

For more information, contact Librarian Kat Alexander at 575-528-4073 or via email at kaexander@lascruces.gov.

Public Invited to Attend Fire Station 9 Public Art Presentations

Finalists for the new Fire Station 9 public art project will present their design concepts to the Quality of Life/Las Cruces Public Art selection committee on Tuesday, July 23. The three finalists will present their design concepts beginning at 4 p.m., in Conference Room 2007A at City Hall, 700 N. Main St. The public is welcome to attend the presentations.
Artists are tasked with designing an art concept proposal that meets various criteria such as evocative of the history and spirit of the local firefighting community, adds identity to the fire station and neighborhood, serves as a focal point of the fire station, and is visible from several vantage points.
Finalists were selected by the art selection committee from a pool of 118 submissions to the Fire Station 9 call for artists. Each presentation is allocated 30 minutes per artist; first presenter is scheduled at 4 p.m., second presenter at 4:45 p.m. and third presenter at 5:30 p.m.
The art selection committee will meet after the presentations to deliberate and choose their recommendation for the fire station. The selected design will then be presented for final approval to the City Art Board and Las Cruces City Council, respectively.
For more information, contact Public Art Coordinator Ceci Vasconcellos at 575-541-2780 or by email at cvasconcellos@lascruces.gov.
