Posted

Ava Joyce Clark Westmoreland died August 2, 2024, at her home surrounded by her son and loved ones in Las Cruces at the age of 88. She was born March 19, 1936, in Bonham, Texas to Band Lilly Clark. In 1951, she met and married Forrest Westmoreland and they moved to Las Cruces, NM where they started their lives together.

In 1956, Joyce gave birth to twins Brent and Renee. While raising them, she helped her husband with many land development ventures in and around Dona Ana County. Joyce was active in the community serving on the state Cosmetology Board, women's Democratic party and Branigan Library Board. She was an avid reader, loved her Chardonnay, and enjoyed reading, watching and talking about politics. Many of her best memories were times spent in California with her husband and granddaughters. One of her proudest moments was becoming a member of the Catholic church and she loved attending mass with her dear friends.

Joyce is survived by her son Brent Westmoreland (Gaye), granddaughters Ava Mueller, Whitney Martinez (Duke) and Kerry Santos (Victor). She also leaves behind 4 great grandchildren, Lilli, Stevi, William and Allana.

She was preceded by her daughter Ava Renee and her husband Forrest.

The family would like to give huge thanks to caretakers Blanca and Nina, and to the High Desert Hospice Staff for the support and incredible care.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice in Joyce's name and lift a glass of Chardonnay in her honor. In accordance with Joyce's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private interment joining her with her husband and daughter, will occur at a later date.
