Blazers, Dawgs play Friday playoff games in Las Cruces

Las Cruces High School will host Los Lunas 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at the Field of Dreams in the first round of the Class 6A state playoffs. LCHS (5-5 overall, 4-1 in 6A District 3/4) is seeded No. 7 in the bracket. Los Lunas (7-3 overall, 3-1 in 6A District 5) is seeded No. 10.

Across town, at the same time, Mesilla Valley Christian School will play in the state semifinals of the District 2 8-man state playoffs. That game will be against Clayton at the Organ Mountain High School football stadium. MVCS beat Menaul 54-32 in the first round Oct. 27. That makes the SonBlazers 8-2 on the season. They are the No. 3 seed in the bracket. Seventh-seeded Clayton defeated No. 2 seed Legacy Academy 28-26 last weekend.

Centennial High School, who beat Las Cruces High School 30-23 Oct. 27 to win 6A District 3/4, earned a bye in the first round of the 6A state playoffs. The Hawks, who finished the regular season  7-2, is seeded No. 2 in the bracket. If the Bulldawgs beat Los Lunas Friday night, there will be Cruces-Centennial rematch the following week.

Artesia beat Mayfield High School 43-7 in Artesia Oct. 27. The Trojans finished the regular season 4-6 and were seeded No. 9 in the 5A state playoffs. Mayfield goes on the road to Anthony, New Mexico, to face No. 8 seed Gadsden at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3. 

Alamogordo beat Organ Mountain 27-0 Oct. 26. The Knights finished the season 0-10.
