Blazers in playoffs; Cruces-Centennial vie for district title

It doesn’t have the familiar ring of Cruces-Mayfield, but this week’s game between Las Cruces High School and Centennial High School will be the last regular season game for both teams and the winner will take home the district championship, the way the Cruces-Mayfield games were when they both were in the same classification.

LCHS and CHS both enter the game a perfect 4-0 in 6A District 3-4.

The Bulldawgs defeated Carlsbad 43-14, Oct. 19, and the Hawks defeated Alamogordo 42-21, Oct. 20.

The Centennial Cruces game kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at the Field of Dreams.

The Mesilla Valley Christian School SonBlazers are seeded No. 3 in the 2A 8-man state championships. They open against 6-seed Menaul in a 6 p.m. game Friday, Oct. 27, at the Organ Mountain High School stadium. MVCS played Lordsburg Oct. 20, to finish out their regular season, scoring a stunning 80 points in an 80-44 victory against Lordsburg.

Organ Mountain is 0-9 after falling to Hobbs Oct. 20. The Knights will try to avoid a winless season at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, as they face Alamogordo at the Field of Dreams in their season finale.

Mayfield (4-5) was at No. 1 ranked Roswell Oct. 20, falling 48-15 The Trojans close out the season on the road at No. 2 ranked Artesia (8-1). Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27.
