Branigan Cultural Center (BCC) and ArrowSoul Art present the ninth annual “Pictograff: The Art of Indigenous Free Ways,” featuring a new mural, music and artist demonstrations, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at BCC, 501 N. Main St. downtown.

Admission is free and the event is open to the public, the City of Las Cruces said in a news release.

Artists Saba, Yuku, Kause, BBoy IGNITE, Diego Garcia and FlipSicc will install a semi-permanent mural on the north exterior wall of the city Museum of Art during the event, which will include music in the courtyard between the museum and BCC from DJ Aight, style-writing workshops, live screen printing, artist demonstrations and activities for all ages, the city said.

The mural will be on public display through spring 2025, at which time a new mural will be installed at the annual “Pictograff” event, the city said.

The design of the mural includes “styles representing many tribes along…El Camino Real,” said Las Cruces artist Saba, who intends for the mural to “represent the collective efforts to acknowledge and prepare to build the future of our past,” the news release said.

An artist panel will discuss the mural noon-1 p.m. Thursday, May 18, the news release said.
