City holds public road safety meeting

Posted

The city of Las Cruces holds a public meeting from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday to discuss the arterial and collector speed management policy. In simpler terms, the policy refers to how the city manages speed and safety on major streets and adjacent “collector” roadways.

In a news release, the city explained that a residential traffic calming policy in effect applies only to residential streets and not the roadways mentioned above. A new policy is sought to evaluate and apply speed management strategies on those streets as well, addressing vehicle safety and protections for pedestrians and bicyclists as well.

The meeting takes place at city hall, 700 N. Main Street, in conference rooms 2007B and 2007C. Residents are invited to offer comments and suggestions related to the new policy. More information is available through the Public Works Department at 575-528-3333.
