A new exhibition, “Allure of the Near East: Treasures of the Huntington Museum of Art” will open Oct. 29 and continue through Jan. 22, 2022 at the Las Cruces Museum of Art (MOA).

The exhibition “features 45 decorative arts and crafts from the Near East (roughly India to the Mediterranean) which range from ceramics and glass to metalwork and prayer rugs,” said city Museum Curator (Exhibits) Jennifer McClung. “It also includes books/calligraphy and scientific instruments. The collection comes from a husband and wife who are Syrian emigrees who donated their collection to the Huntington Museum of Art in Huntington, West Virginia,” McClung said.

MOA is the first hosting institution for this exhibition, the City of Las Cruces said in a news release.

The exhibit includes objects – some that are centuries old – that were meant for palaces as well as for ordinary homes, the city said.

MOA, 491 N. Main St., is open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. It is accessible from RoadRUNNER Transit Route 1 Stop 1.
