City Museum of Nature and Science offers STEM programs in November

The Las Cruces Museum of Nature and Science (MONAS) will offer in-person STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) programs for children and families during five programs in November. The programs are free but require registration in advance. To register, call 575-522-3120 or email education@las-cruces.org before the registration deadlines listed.

Here are the events:

  • “Nature & Science Discovery Pre-K: Junior Paleontologists,” 9-10 a.m. Thursdays, Nov. 4, 11 and 18; no program Nov. 25. Learn about prehistoric carnivores through stories and crafts. Recommended for ages 2-5; adult caregiver participation is required. Register by Oct. 23.
  • “Saturday Family Science – Makey-Makey Games,” 10-11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 6. Work as a team to explore circuits and simple coding with Makey-Makey invention kits. Recommended for ages 6 and up; adult caregiver participation is required. Registration closes Oct. 23.
  • “STEAMpunk – Walter Lincoln Hawkins, Chemist,” 10-11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 20. Inspired by chemist Walter Lincoln Hawkins (1911-92), participants will explore polymers and make a bouncy ball. Recommended for ages 6 and up; adult caregiver participation is recommended. Registration closes Nov. 6.
  • “Live Animal Feedings,” 11 a.m. Saturdays, Nov. 6, 13 and 20. It’s brunch time! Watch and learn how different species eat and what they eat. No registration is required.
  • “Animal Encounters: Amphibians,” 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 27. Learn about the diverse world of reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates and get up close to some of the museum’s residents. No registration is required.

MONAS, 411 N. Main St., is accessible from RoadRUNNER Transit Route 1 Stop 1.
