Bulletin report

The City of Las Cruces Internship Program is growing again despite a pandemic-induced slowdown, the city said in a news release.

There were 140 interns working in 11 city departments at the end of 2021, the city said.

The city Parks and Recreation Department, Las Cruces Utilities (LCU) and Quality of Life Department (QLD) utilized most of the interns the city hired in 2021, the city said. Parks and Rec had 39 interns, with 37 serving as summer youth interns; LCU had 35 interns in 2021, including 23 summer interns; QLD had 22 interns.

More than half of the participating students were from high schools, along with students from New Mexico State University and Doña Ana Community College.

The city said it will upgrade its website in 2022 to give students easier access to information on available city internships, how to apply for them and contact information for guidance and support.

The city said it encourages all interested students to contact city Career Development Coordinator Ryan Steinmetz at 575-541-2498, and rsteinmetz@las-cruces.org.
