County to break ground on new elections warehouse

Posted

The Doña Ana County Clerk’s Office will host a groundbreaking ceremony for a new elections warehouse next week.

The new warehouse, which houses the ballot counting process during elections, will be at 2821 Las Vegas Court near the Doña Ana County Government Center. The building also stores voting machines, ballot boxes and other election supplies.

“This endeavor has been in the works for more than three years. I cannot express the excitement and energy this groundbreaking brings to our office and the county.” County Clerk Amanda López Askin said in a news release.

The new building will replace the current warehouse located on Lakeside Drive.

“Having our legislators fully support us underscores their belief in our office, the Bureau of Elections, and Doña Ana County. We greatly appreciate everyone who has contributed their time and effort to this project,” López Askin said.

The ceremony to christen the new building will begin at 10 a.m. on May 23 at the Las Vegas Court location. The news release said that López Askin would be joined by interim County Manager Stephen Lopez, state Sen. Bill Soules and state Rep. Doreen Gallegos.
