Doña Ana Community College will hold several grand opening events for its new equity space at the DACC campus at New Mexico State University, 3400 S. Espina St., inside Alex Sanchez Hall (DASH building).

The equity space “will be used for students to feel safe and welcome, and will provide an area to de-stress,” DACC said.

Tours and opening events will be held 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. Tuesday-Wednesday, Oct. 31-Nov. 1, DACC said in a news release.

On Wednesday, Nov. 1, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., there will be a storyteller open mic sponsored by the DACC Cultural Diversity Committee in the commons area. That same day, 1:30-4 p.m., there will be a free showing of the “Barbie” movie in room 96.

The equity space event will conclude on Thursday, Nov. 2, with a 9:30-10:45 a.m. equity roundtable discussion about compassion and empathy, in room 98.

Throughout the events, students will be able to video record their stories surrounding diversity, equity and inclusion, the news release said.

“Colleges that promote diversity and inclusion also promote a safe environment for their students,” DACC said.
