Doña Ana Arts Council director stepping down

Posted

The Doña Ana Arts Council announced the departure of executive director Araceli Solis Wednesday in a news release inviting applications for an interim leader.

Solis “will be transitioning from our organization to pursue personal professional endeavors,” the nonprofit stated in a news release. A former art teacher at Sierra Middle School and 20-year educator, Solis had held the position since February 2023, when she succeeded Greg Smith as executive director.

Solis did not elaborate on her plans in her own statement, which focused on her 17 months at DAAC. During that time the center became the first participant of the National Hispanic Cultural Center’s cultural ambassador program and adopted an “Arts for All” approach aiming to make the community “the arts hub of southern New Mexico.”

Applicants for interim executive director may email cover letters and curriculum vitae to DAAC’s board president, Dan Lere, at danjlere@hotmail.com. A job description and application are available at DAAC, 230 S. Water Street.
