Dear editor,
My name is Ruben Smith, former state Representative of District 35 for 10 years, followed by becoming the first elected mayor of Las Cruces (in 1991) and serving 12 years. I’m a native Las Crucen, born and raised here and attended all public schools. I graduated from New Mexico State University, and then enlisted in the United States Army for three years. I returned to Las Cruces to raise a family and become involved in our family businesses.
You can replace all of the above with the name of Gabriel Duran, who has decided to run for state Representative in District 35. The only thing I failed to mention was that before I ran for office, I had absolutely no interest or expertise in the political process. Why do I mention this? I believe that the determination and commitment are what counts in serving the constituents of District 35. I did that and I know that Gabriel can do the same. I support and encourage everyone to support Gabriel Duran and his quest to serve you in District 35.
