A visitor to “The Epiphany: Dia de los reyes” reads about the doll house with nativity that was one of 93 nativity scenes from around the world that are part of the creche/nacimento collection of Faith Hutson and John Verploegh and were on display at their home on south Mesquite Street in Las Cruces on Sunday, Jan. 5. The Epiphany is celebrated Jan. 6 throughout the world. In Mexico, the celebration includes the opening of gifts, representing the gifts the three kings brought to the baby Jesus.

This creche was made of nails and other salvaged materials by the late Las Cruces City Councilor Miguel Silva and given to Faith Hutson in 2011 or 2012. Silva welded the nails and screws to make the star, stable and holy family. The halos are washers.
