Fire Department rescues cats

Las Cruces firefighters provided emergency care and rescued two cats that were found in a residential structure fire Nov. 7, the Las Cruces Fire Department said in a news release.

 About 8:15 a.m. Nov. 7, first responders were dispatched to the report of fire at a home on the 500 block of north Mesquite Street.

The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes.

During a search of the home, firefighters found two cats in need of emergency care. Firefighters removed the cats from the home and were successful in saving their lives.

 Other than the cats, the home was not occupied at the time of the fire.

 No other injuries were reported. Damage to the structure is estimated at approximately $21,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, the news release said.
