Turnout was strong as early voting opened for the 2024 election in Las Cruces on Tuesday.

At noon, 150 people stood in a line at the Doña Ana County government building that extended down the hallway to the building’s northern entrance. A couple who spoke with the Bulletin at the halfway mark said they had been in line about 35 minutes.

Per data from the Secretary of State’s office, 1,352 country residents voted in person Tuesday: 720 registered Democrats, 442 Republicans, 10 Libertarians and 175 unaffiliated, with the rest recorded as other. The county also received 99 absentee votes, the SOS reported.
