Four people are dead, one is in jail, a teen girl was injured by shrapnel and police are looking for suspects after two unrelated incidents rocked the city over the weekend of June 23.

According to a news release, the first incident occurred at the Avenida del Sol and Cortez Drive intersection on the city’s East Mesa around 12:30 a.m. on June 23. Two people, 26-year-old Jonathon Pena and hist 23-year-old sister, Jacinya Pena, were shot and killed. A 15-year-old girl in the back seat was struck by shrapnel but received only minor injuries, according to the police.

“Anyone with information on who may be responsible for the deaths of Jonathan Pena and Jacinya Pena is asked to call police at (575) 526-0795.,” the release said.

From the preliminary information, it’s unclear whether the shooting was a random incident or if the victim knew the individuals who shot them.

The second incident occurred around 11 a.m. the same day. Police were sent to a home on the 1100 block of Wofford Drive and discovered two dead men.

Initially, police said they believed the shooter had killed his father and brother.

The victims have been identified as 88-year-old Francisco Javier Noyola, and brother, 51-year-old Lucio Noyola. Luis Noyola, 46, was charged with two counts of murder in this incident.
