At least two other athletes who have qualified for the Tokyo Olympics have ties to New Mexico State University.
Former Aggie women’s golfer Alena Sharp has qualified to represent her native Canada for the second time.
While at New Mexico State University, Sharp won the 2000 Big West championship and then won the 2002 and 2003 Sun Belt championship.
She also helped lead the Aggies to two NCAA championship appearances in 2000 and 2001. The Hamilton, Ontario, native took 13th place at the 2000 national championships.
Sharp is a 16-year veteran of the LPGA and has finished in the top 10 at 14 events. She finished in 30th at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
Future Aggie swimmer Lina Khiyara has also qualified for the Tokyo Olympics where she will represent her home country of Morocco.
Khiyara is a freestyle specialist who has represented Morocco at the 2019 World Aquatic Championships in South Korea and the 2019 African Games in Rabat, Morocco.
Khiyara is set to join an NMSU swim program that took second at the WAC championships during its past season.
