Hawks-‘Dawgs rematch set

For the second time in three weeks, it’s Las Cruces High School versus Centennial High School at the Field of Dreams.

Last time it was for the district championship.

This time it will be for a spot in the Class 6A state championship semifinals.

Last time, Oct. 27, Centennial’s Hawks defeated LCHS’s Bulldawgs 30-23.

This time, you can attend the game, 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, to see what happens.

The Bulldawgs, seeded No. 7, advanced in the playoffs by silencing 10-seed Los Lunas, 42-6, Nov. 3, at the Field of Dreams. The Hawks, seeded No. 2, earned a first-round bye after finishing undefeated (5-0) in district play and 7-2 overall.

LCHS, who finished 4-1 in district, is now 6-5 overall.

This winner of this Friday’s game will face the winner of the other quarterfinal game between No. 3 seed La Cueva and No. 11 seed Farmington. The semifinal game will be Nov. 17 or 18 at the field of the better-seeded team.

In the other state playoff game in Las Cruces Nov. 3, Mesilla Valley Christian School had its five-game winning streak snapped, falling 52-36 in the semifinals of the class 2A 8-man state playoffs. The SonBlazers finished the season 8-3.
