Las Cruces author scheduled cookbook signing events

Las Cruces cookbook author, food consultant and New Mexico State University professor Kelley Coffeen, Ph.D., has scheduled three book-signing events for her new book, “The Big Book of Hatch Chile.”

The book signings are

  • 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, Ice Box Brewery, 2825 W. Picacho Ave.
  • 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, Barnes & Noble bookstore, Mesilla Valley Mall, 700 S. Telshor Blvd.
  • Noon-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, La Posta de Mesilla, 2410 Calle de San Albino in Mesilla (salsa and signing).

“The Big Book of Hatch Chile” includes 180 recipes, Coffeen said.

“Hatch chile for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks? Yes, please!” she said. “Chiles are the heart of Mexican cuisine.”

Recipes in the book include Hatch red chile sauce, savory chile cheesecake, a chile-laced margarita and the classic green chile cheeseburger.

The book includes Hatch chile lore and history, and “profiles family farms, restaurants and everyone and everything that makes chile central to the identity of the Hatch Valley and New Mexico,” Coffeen said.

Kelley Cleary Coffeen is a professor at New Mexico State University. She is a culinary expert, food

consultant, and the author of five Mexican cookbooks, including Fiesta Mexicali; 300 Best Taco Recipes:

Coffeen’s other books are “Tex Mex Diabetes Cooking,” “200 Easy Mexican Recipes,” “300 Best Taco Recipes,” “Fiesta Mexicali,” “Simply 7” and “Great College Cookbook of the Southwest.”

Coffeen is an associate professor in the NMSU Family and Consumer Sciences Department, fashion merchandising and design. She has a Ph.D. in educational leadership and administration and a master’s of science degree in clothing, textiles and fashion merchandising, both from NMSU, and a bachelor’s degree in merchandising and retail from Northern Arizona University.
