The Las Cruces High boys basketball team will begin the next phase of its "unfinished business" tour.
The Bulldawgs, 28-0 overall, were given the No. 1 seed in the state 5A playoffs under seedings and brackets announced by the New Mexico Activities Association Sunday night.
Las Cruces is seeking its third straight trip to the state 5A championship game this year and this time, the Bulldawgs are hoping to win their final game of the season after losing to Cleveland High of Rio Rancho last year.
Getting the top seed was somewhat of a suprise as the Bulldawgs had been ranked No. 2 in the state by MaxPreps for most the season behind Volcano Vista of Albuquerque, which ended up with the No. 2 seed. During the NMAA's selection show, the sports governing body said Las Cruces High got the edge because it had more wins over other district champs and a stronger showing in the coaches' poll.

Las Cruces will begin its postseason quest when it hosts No. 16 Albuquerque, which was 11-15 overall, at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 5.

Also in 5A boys, Organ Mountain, 15-14, was given the 15th seed. The Knights will face Volcano Vista, 25-0, at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at Volcano Vista in Albuquerque.

In girls 5A, Las Cruces High was given the fifth seed. The Bulldawgs, 21-7, will host No. 12 Clovis, 18-10, at 6 p.m. Friday, March 4.

Also in girls 5A, Organ Mountain was given the sixth seed and will host No. 11 Albuquerque at 6 p.m.m Friday, March 4. Organ Mountain is 21-8 and Albuquerque is 20-6.

Two other Las Cruces public schools made the girls 5A playoffs. Centennial High was given the eighth seed and Mayfield the ninth. The two Las Cruces schools will face off at Centennial High at 7 p.m. Friday, March 4.Centennial is 19-9 and Mayfield is 17-11.

In boys 1A, Mesilla Valley Christian was given the third seed. The SonBlazers, 20-1, will host No. 14 Coronado, 16-11, at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 5.
