Posted

The Las Cruces Police Department has put out a call for volunteers for the Victims Advocate Team, part of the LCPD’s Victims Assistance Unit.

The Victims Advocate Team works with professional advocates, police officers and detectives to assist victims of crime, the department explained in a news release. Those interested in a law enforcement career, victims’ advocacy or experience related to criminal justice or social work were encouraged to apply.

Volunteers must be 18 years of age, have valid New Mexico driver’s license and a reliable vehicle with current insurance and registration, live in or close to Las Cruces and pass a criminal background check.

Applications are available at the LCPD, 217 E. Picacho Avenue and accepted through 5 p.m. on July 31. Training for selected volunteers begins Aug. 7, according to the release.

More information is available via the Victims Assistance Unit at 575-528-4111 or by emailing Erika Valencia at evalencia@lascruces.gov.
