Las Cruces Symphony backs tribute band performing the music of Earth, Wind & Fire in Feb. 12-13 concerts

With Conductor Emeritus Lonnie Klein raising the baton, the full Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra (LCSO) will perform live in its annual pops concert Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 12-13, backing the tribute band Serpentine Fire, who will perform the music of Earth, Wind & Fire.

Concerts will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, at Atkinson Recital Hall, inside the NMSU Music Building, 1075 N. Horseshoe St. on the NMSU campus.

Tickets are $46 to $51.

“I saw this band two years ago in (Las) Vegas,” Klein said. “You play Vegas; you’ve got to be good. I was really knocked out with their playing and their singing.”

Serpentine Fire charts for the concert will be “just like when Earth, Wind & Fire recorded these tunes in the ‘70s, ‘80s and 90s,” said Klein, who is returning to conduct LCSO for the first time since his retirement last June.

Klein said Serpentine Fire will perform all of Earth, Wind & Fire’s most popular hits, including “Shining Star,” “That’s the Way of the World,” “Can’t Hide Love,” “September,” “After the Love Has Gone” and “Star.”

“I’m pretty excited about it,” Klein said. “It will be a nice Valentine-package weekend: Take your date out, have a nice meal and come to the symphony and be ready to rock and roll!”

Klein said the concert lasts two hours, so people who attend on Sunday will be home in time to watch the Super Bowl.

Klein said great seats are available for both concerts.
