Posted

How good is Mayfield High School football in its first season under coach Gary Bradley?

Fans should have a sense after the Trojans’ 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, game against Centennial High School at the Field of Dreams.

Centennial (1-2) is ranked No. 3 in the state in Class 6A, while Mayfield (2-0) is ranked No. 7 in Class 5A. The Trojans’ two victories were lopsided, as they defeated Manzano 55-0 and Organ Mountain High School 41-10 Sept. 1. An Aug. 25 game against Santa Teresa was canceled because of lightning in Las Cruces.

Centennial got its first victory of the season Sept. 2, defeating La Cueva in Albuquerque 35-28.

In other local matchups this weekend, Mesilla Valley Christian School (1-1) is on the road at Menaul (2-0) with a 7 p.m. game Friday, Sept. 8.

Also on the road is Las Cruces High School  (0-3) at No. 1 ranked Cleveland (2-1) 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8.

And with a 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, game at the Field of Dreams, Rio Rancho (2-1) is at Organ Mountain (0-3).

In other Sept. 1 games, Fort Sumner/House def. MVCS 66-12 and El Paso Eastwood beat LCHS 55-28.
