NM softball, baseball playoff seedings announced

The Centennial High School softball team earned a No. 2 seed in the state 5A playoffs and the Organ Mountain High baseball team was seeded No. 4 also in 5A, according to the brackets announced by the New Mexico Activities Association Sunday night. 

The Lady Hawks will open with No. 15 Cibola. 

In 5A baseball, Organ Mountain will host No. 13 Los Lunas. 

Also in 5A baseball, three other Las Cruces schools earned postseason berths.  

Centennial is an 11 seed, Las Cruces is seeded 12 and Mayfield is 15th. 

Centennial will travel to play No. 6 Cleveland High of Rio Rancho. Las Cruces will play at No. 5 Hobbs, and Mayfield will play at No. 2 Sandia.  

In 5A softball, Mayfield also made the postseason field, earning an eight seed. Mayfield will face No. 9 Piedra Vista of Farmington. 

Here is the schedule of games involving Las Cruces schools. The oipening round for 5A baseball is best of three, while the opening round of softball is single elimination.  Subsequent rounds of softball are double elimination.
