Pair of girls soccer teams advance in state playoffs


A pair of Las Cruces area high-school girls soccer teams have advanced in the state playoffs.

In girls 5A competition, sixth-seeded Centennial High beat 11th-seeded Albuquerque 3-1 on Tuesday, Oct. 26 in the opening round of the playoffs. Centennial will advance and face third-seeded La Cueva. The quarterfinal game will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29 at the Albuquerque Public Schools Soccer Complex.

Also in girls 5A, 12th-seeded Las Cruces beat fifth-seeded Santa Fe 1-0. Las Cruces will face fourth-seeded Hobbs at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30 in Hobbs.

In boys 5A, eighth-seeded Centennial lost 2-0 to ninth-seeded Volcano Vista in the opening round.
