Play ‘My Masterpiece’ game at Mesilla Valley Fine Arts Gallery

Posted

Wednesday, May 3-Wednesday, May 31, visitors to Mesilla Valley Fine Arts Gallery (MVFG) can play the My Masterpiece game, gallery artist Richard Spellenberg said.

For the game, 22 MVFG artists will exhibit pieces done in the style of a famous artist, Spellenberg said. To play the game, gallery visitors try to match artwork with the famous artist who inspired it. A clue is provided with each piece.

The winner will receive a $250 gift certificate to the gallery. In the event of a tie, a drawing will be held to determine the winner.

MVFG will hold an open house 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 27. Visitors can meet gallery artists and participate in free art lessons given by MVFG artist and El Paso Community College instructor Frank Rimbach in drawing with charcoal, markers and oil pastels, Spellenberg said. Lessons will be held on the shaded patio behind the gallery. Supplies and light refreshments will be provided. May 27 visitors can also play the Masterpiece game.

MVFG, a 30-member co-op, consists of three rooms in an historic adobe building located at 2470 Calle de Guadalupe, across the street from La Posta Restaurant on the historic Mesilla Plaza. The gallery showcases a diverse selection of art, including paintings, photography, pottery, wood turnings, jewelry, gourd art, ceramics, stained glass, prints and notecards.

MVFG opened 28 years ago and incorporated in 1994, said Spellenberg, who is a gallery artist. It is believed to be the longest operating co-op art gallery in New Mexico, he said.

The gallery is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. seven days a week.
