Las Cruces police are investigating a man’s death after they said they discovered him in an undeveloped area near Valley View Avenue on Las Cruces’ northeast side.

Juan Diego Martinez, 35, was found dead at 1001 Valley View Avenue on June 8, police said. According to a news release, Martinez was found by a passerby around 7 a.m. near North Las Cruces Park. Martinez had been shot at least once, the news release said.

However, the news release stopped short of calling the incident a murder and said police were still working to determine the circumstances around the death.

“Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Martinez prior to Saturday morning, the company he kept, or information on who may be responsible for his death is asked to call Las Cruces police at (575) 526-0795,” the news release said.
