Compatriot Bill Kinsella of the Gadsden Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), presented Cadet Ernesto Nevarez of Mayfield High School the SAR Bronze ROTC Medal in April. Nevarez was nominated for the award by the commanding officer of the Air Force ROTC unit at Mayfield. The medal fosters the principle of “citizen-soldier” exemplified but the Minuteman, a member of the New England colonial militia, who were among the first to fight in the American Revolution.
“Cadet Ernesto was selected based on his leadership qualities, military bearing and general excellence,” said Don Williams, who is SAR Gadsden Chapter secretary/treasurer and secretary of the New Mexico Society SAR.
