Society focus on following genes, new leader on board

The Doña Ana County Genealogical Society (DACGS) has been a constant on the Las Cruces landscape since 2008 with a mission of meeting the genealogical needs of its members and the public. John Charbonnet served as the 2022 President and successfully propagated the society’s mission while expanding the social involvement of members by planning group luncheons before monthly meetings.

Dorothy Wray will take the reins as president of the society starting January 2023. Wray has been a member of DACGS since 2008 and has served as Secretary. She is a volunteer in the Genealogy Collection Section at the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library where her major project is to create a digital index of obituaries from the local newspaper. Her accomplishments include compiling three family history books and she is currently working on her husband’s genealogy.

The society meets the second Wednesday of each month at 2 p.m. in the Roadrunner Room of the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library. Zoom sessions will continue to be made available for those who cannot meet in person. The January program will feature a roundtable discussion to determine the genealogical research interests of the membership and the public.

Members receive monthly meeting reminders via email and non-members are welcome to participate either in person or by Zoom session. For Zoom access, send an email request to dacgslc@gmail.com at least two days before the meeting date. All society monthly presentations are open to the public.
