Suicide Prevention Taskforce hosts recovery event

The City of Las Cruces Suicide Prevention Task Force (LCSPTF) will host its seventh annual Southwest Recovery and Suicide Prevention Summit Thursday-Saturday, Sept. 7-9.

  • Thursday, Sept. 7: Southwest Summit: “Being Heard,.” 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Las Cruces Convention Center, 680 E. University Ave. The summit’s is “Being heard, the correlation between suicide and substance abuse.” The event will include guest speakers and a panel discussing how providers can approach legislators about policy changes.
  • Friday, Sept. 8: 2023 Student Summit, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Corbett Center on the New Mexico State University campus. The focus is “student-led conversations about suicide and substance use prevention.” The event will include speakers, breakout sessions and student feedback to address suicidal thoughts, raising awareness of community resources, peer-to-peer solutions and student behavioral health needs.
  • Saturday, Sept. 9: 2023 Recovery Celebration, 4-9 p.m., Plaza de Las Cruces, 100 N. Main St.

LCSPTF was created is to raise awareness, educate, train and support the community by developing and sustaining partnerships, providing technical assistance and contributing to policy and legislative initiatives related to suicide prevention, according to its website.
