It’s a big weekend for local theater groups and fans, with three different productions kicking off.
Las Cruces Community Theatre’s (LCCT) production of “A Little Bit Bad: The Villains of Broadway,” a musical revue, will debut after being postponed for a week. LCCT has live performances at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 29-30 and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1 at LCCT, 313 N. Main St. Downtown.
Tickets are $17 for adults, $14 for senior citizens, students and military and $10 for children. Student rush tickets are $5. LCCT offers a 10 percent discount to anyone buying six or more tickets and a 20 percent discount if you buy 10 or more tickets for a single performance.
The production is an ensemble of many of LCCT’s most popular actors and singers, including Brandon Brown, Lennie Brown, Vanessa Dabovich, Janet Beatty-Payne, Matthew Esqueda, Zeta Shearill, Bianca Castro, Jessie Ortega, James Boberg and Amanda Bradford. They will be performing music from old and new Broadway productions, featuring some of its most famous baddies.
The production is directed by Vanessa Dabovich, with Jessie Ortega as assistant director and Katlin Timme as music director. Choreography is by Bianca Castro and Luis Castro. Performance music is by David Cunniff. Props and costumes are by Lennie Brown and Janet Beatty-Payne. The set design is by Vanessa Dabovich, Brandon Brown and Ortega, who is also did the light and sound design. Casi Galban is the light and sound operator.

NMSU’s ‘Broadway on Stage’ is April 29 and 30
The New Mexico State University Theatre Department’s original production “Broadway on Stage: Movie Magic” will be performed live at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, and again at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at the ASNMSU Center for the Arts, 1000 E. University Ave.

The musical revue is directed by Theatre Department assistant professor Lisa Hermanson and adjunct professor Christa Fredrickson and includes performances by theater students and staff as well as community members.
Performers include Bryan Berard, Chris Brooks, Tiffany Brooks, Della Bustamante, Carter Chamberlin, Jonathan Cordova, Eva Cullen, Karlten Friedrich, Alli Glover, Dominique Gomez, Alyssa Gose, JJ Hanley, Meagan Higgins, Brianna Horvath, Shelby McKinney, Riley Samuel Merritt, Francesca Perez-Wright, Benjamin Ramsey, Esther Rogge, Mattie Ruminer, Caitlin Skibyak, Jensen Stell, Melis Derya White, Nolan Winters, Monte Womble, Peyton Womble, Waylon and Marley Yerxa, the Centennial High School Choir, Singing Out Las Cruces and Studio A40. NMSU Theatre Department Head Wil Kilroy is the host.
The show is co-sponsored by the American Southwest Theatre Company nonprofit, with proceeds benefiting NMSU theater students.
Songs will include “The Music of the Night” from “The Phantom of the Opera”; “I Know Where I’ve Been” from “Hairspray”; a “Mamma Mia!” medley; “What I Did for Love” from “A Chorus Line”; and “A Sondheim Tribute,” featuring songs from “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” “A Little Night Music,” “Follies”; “West Side Story,” and many others.

High schools team up to present ‘Peter Pan’
Las Cruces, Mayfield and Centennial high schools are teaming up to produce and perform the stage play “Peter Pan” Thursday, April 28-Saturday, April 30, at Rio Grande Theatre, 211 N. Main St. Downtown.
The curtain rises at 7 p.m. for the Thursday-Friday, April 28- 29, performances, with doors opening at 6 p.m. The show starts at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, with doors opening at 1 p.m.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students with an I.D. and will be available at door or at riograndetheatre.org.
The play is directed by Centennial High theater and English teacher (and one of Las Cruces’ premiere actors) Darin Cabot, who also was the fight choreographer and sound designer.
The cast includes Axel Hale as Peter Pan and Kareli Melendrez as Tinkerbell, along with Anjolie Jimenez, Marcela Cano, Lauren Evans, Mia Ayon, Alezandra Cisneros, Adón J. Pereyra, Landon Walker, Kaitlyn Nelson, Marshall Strebe, Jackson Giffing, Nchole Yurcic, Calie Rivas, Juno Martinez, Calie Rivas and Luke Bugbee.
The crew includes Stage Manager Katina Medina; assistant directors Melissa Muñoz (Mayfield High School) and Brandy Snyder (Las Cruces High School); scenic design by Doug Roby, Marc Forbes, Greta Burger, Karen Buerdsell and the Las Cruces High School Theatre Department; puppet design by Mayfield High School Stagecraft, Cisco Bustos and JJ and Phaedra Nelson; costume design by Rydia Husson-Matter; lighting design and operation by Katina Medina; and sound operator Phaedra Alley.
“The very first play I ever saw was a Jornada Elementary School production of ‘Peter Pan,” Cabot said. “My older brother played ‘Tootles.’ My mother, Mary Cabot, who taught at East Picacho Elementary for many years … would have been so proud to see me finally direct the play that has been a lifelong treasure to me. I dedicate this production to her memory.”
