The New Mexico Foundation for Open Government is hosting a free town hall Tuesday alongside state lawmakers to discuss New Mexico’s budget process and explore how it could be more transparent for residents.
In particular, the town hall addresses the question: Would modernizing the New Mexico Legislature make the budgeting process more transparent?
The event will take place at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, 4100 Dripping Springs Road, at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, with registration open at 6:30 p.m. Attendees can also register online in advance by going to NMFOG.org and clicking on the “town hall” button.
In a news release, the nonprofit stated its goal is “to provide information on the current budget process; gather information about public perception; offer valuable insights; supply valuable information for future use and allow people from diverse backgrounds a chance to express their views about the key issues.”
The event, sponsored by the Thornburg Foundation, is set to include members of the Legislative Finance Committee and unnamed senators and House members.
