Volunteers needed for Tree Planting

Posted

Las Cruces NeigborWoods and Tree New Mexico are planting 50 trees in a “Lift Up Neighborhood” with a community planting.  On Nov. 18, volunteer tree planters arrive at 9 a.m. and will be assigned to a small group with a trained team leader who has tools, maps, hoses and support. The holes are dug and the trees nearby.

The team of Las Cruces NeighborWoods volunteers will plant 50 trees on private properties, positioned within 20 feet of the street to form a canopy of shade over sidewalks. Residents in the neighborhood have personally selected their trees from a list of drought-tolerant tree species to adopt and have committed to watering the trees.

Since 2017, Tree New Mexico efforts have resulted in 9,441 trees being added to the tree canopy in and around Albuquerque, achieving an 80 percent survivability rate.

Tree New Mexico’s mission is to help communities plant and care for trees in urban areas – large and small- throughout the Land of Enchantment. Tree New Mexico educates people to care for trees through classes on planting, staking, and pruning, 4-week Tree Awareness Classes, and a 12-week Tree Steward program.
