White coat ceremony welcomes 207 students

Posted

The Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine welcomes an anticipated 207 new medical students to its Las Cruces campus Friday with the traditional white coat ceremony, a symbolic event emphasizing the ethical and professional commitment undertaken by aspiring physicians.

“It is a proud moment for our entire community as we welcome these future physicians who will carry forth the values and mission of Burrell College,” the college’s president and cofounder, John Hummer, stated in a news release.

The incoming students will be presented with their white physicians’ coats and then recite their professional pledge.

The college was founded in Las Cruces in 2013, with its inaugural class enrolled in 2016. It is located on the New Mexico State University campus and also has a campus in Melbourne, Fla.

Friday’s white coat ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. at Centennial High School, 1950 Sonoma Ranch Blvd., and will be livestreamed on the college’s YouTube channel.
