Award-winning Las Cruces author publishes new poetry book

Posted

Las Cruces author and University of Texas-El Paso professor emeritus Shelley Armitage, Ph.D., has written a new book of poetry, “A Habit of Landscape.”

The book “celebrates the convergent meanings of habit and habitat, each sharing the root words, ‘to dwell,’” Armitage said.

“These poems hold sensate moments – family experiences, inner revelations, transformative places,” she said. “A realized kinship between the human and natural worlds signals the inclusiveness of space.”

The book was published by Finishing Line Publishing, based in Lexington, Kentucky.

Armitage, a naturalist amd conservationist, is the author of eight award-winning books, most recently “Walking the Llano: A Texas Memoir of Place.” In 2022, she was one of 15 writers inducted into the Texas Institute of Letters.

In Las Cruces, Armitage manages the family farm and its native grasslands. Since retiring from teaching, she has volunteered for Site Watch, Tree Stewards, the Audubon Society and immigration projects.
