Las Cruces Community Theatre (LCCT) will hold auditions Saturday, Aug. 26, and Monday, Aug. 28, for its December production of “The Sound of Music.”
Auditions will be noon-5 p.m. Aug. 26 and 6-9 p.m. Aug 28 at LCCT, 313 N. Main St.
The stage musical was the final collaboration (1959) between composer Richard Rogers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II. The book was written by Howard Lindsay and Russell Crouse.
The LCCT production will be directed by Norman Lewis, with musical direction by Lisa Hermanson.
Auditions and performances
All roles will require a musical audition. Auditioners should prepare 16 bars of a song from “The Sound of Music” or from a similar musical from the Golden Age of Hollywood (1927-69), LCCT said. Auditioners should bring their own pre-recorded track to accompany their singing audition, or should bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided. Singing without accompaniment is acceptable but not encouraged, LCCT said.
Many of the roles will also require a brief reading. Auditioners should familiarize themselves with the sides by visiting www.lcctnm.org and clicking on “Auditions” and “Sound of Music Auditions” in the gray box at the top of the page.
LCCT will present 14 performances of “The Sound of Music, five more than its regular performance schedule.
Because there are seven children featured in the show, LCCT will double-cast children’s roles “to give more local children opportunities to perform, with each cast of children playing seven performances,” LCCT said. The two groups of seven will be known as the Red cast and the Green cast.
Adults roles will not be double cast, and adult actors will appear in all 14 performances of the show.
“The Sound of Music” will rehearse 6:30-9:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday at LCCT beginning Monday, Oct. 16, LCCT said. Visit the website for rehearsal dates.
Performances are Thursday-Sunday, Dec. 1-17, at LCCT.
Roles to be cast
All roles are open and actors of all ethnicities are invited to audition, LCCT said on its website.
The age ranges listed are the characters’ ages, not the ages of the actors who will perform them.
