Posted

Holiday Traditions in Southern New Mexico is the Culture Series presentation hosted by the Friends of the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum 7-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14.

This presentation will be by the fireplace in the lobby of the museum, 4100 Dripping Springs Road. Louis Santana, a local producer of award-winning jerky and other gourmet foods will share stories of culinary traditions in southern New Mexico along with some warming Mexican hot chocolate.

Attendees will  be treated to the favorite traditional cookie of the southwest, biscochos, made from a long held family recipe.

The history of the luminaria tradition in Mesilla will be shared by Kathleen Biel Foreman, daughter of Josefina Gamboa-Biel-Emerson – family matriarch of the famous “Josefina’s Old Gate” house in Mesilla. Hear the story of the tradition of lighting up Mesilla with hundreds of luminarias.

Learn how to make a luminaria, and share in the atmosphere of the elegant open house where the tradition began. Guests receive starter luminaria kit.
