The Las Cruces Community Theatre will hold auditions next weekend for its upcoming production of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” it announced in its newsletter.

The musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s novel, with book by David Grieg, score by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman, will be directed for LCCT by Luis Castro. The show includes songs from the 1971 film adaptation including "Candy Man," "I've Got a Golden Ticket," "Oompa Loompa Song" and "Pure Imagination.” The play features adults and children as characters.

According to the audition notice, the production’s performance dates extend from Dec. 6-22, for a total of 12 performances. Rehearsals begin on Oct. 7.

Singers are requested to bring 16 to 32 measures of a contemporary musical theatre song, to sing a capella or with a recorded track the singer brings to the audition. There will also be a dance call with a choreographer teaching a short combination and sides provided for reading, although not all auditioners will be asked to read, according to the notice.

The role of Veruca requires some ballet performance, the notice stated.

The auditions calls are 6-9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13 and 14, with possible callbacks from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15.
