Obituary

Neil Halleck Loomis, 77

Posted

It is with a heavy heart and sadness that we announce the passing of our most wonderful husband, father and loyal friend, Neil Halleck Loomis on September 5th, 2024 at 5:54PM. Neil passed away in the arms of his loving wife, Olga Najera de Loomis ln El Paso, Texas.

Neil was born on November 11th, 1946 to Richard Loomis and Rae Graham Loomis in Las Cruces, NM. He was raised in Las Cruces. His summers were spent on the Graham Ranch breaking wild horses, ranching and raising cattle at the family ranch headquartered at the McClendon and Flat lake in Upham NM.

Neil spent time in Villa Humada, Mexico where he began elementary school and learned to speak the most beautiful and correct Spanish, which helped him in his career as a Real Estate Appraiser from the early 1970’s until he retired in 2013. Neil attended Central Elementary School, Court Jr. High, Las Cruces High School and matriculated from NMSU in 1971 with a degree in Range Sciences.

In 1969 Neil married Becca Day and together they created Miles Coleman. In 1976 Neil married JoDee Menaugh and they created Jessica Rae, Dustin Oliver and Donovan Paul Loomis. In 1986 Neil began to date Olga and soon after they began living together, raising their blended family which included Olga’s son Miguel D.N. Gallegos. We took many family trips, just hopping into Neil’s Honda Wagon or into his 1983 motorhome and going traipsing around southern New Mexico having various sorts of fun adventures, nothing elaborate, but just fun family time. Neil and Olga married in 2001. Neil was a true, loving and caring family man.

Other family members include granddaughter Alexa Rae Loomis. In-laws Joe Najera (Genevieve), Mary Ellen Navarro (Ignacio), Gloria Butler, Debbie Menaugh, Melanie Gault (Charles) and many nieces and nephews.

Neil enjoyed his weekly Thursday card nights with his buddies Bruno Zaldo and Danny Inlow. Neil was also quite the pool player, something he enjoyed doing daily playing in pool tournaments in and around Las Cruces including Las Vegas, Nevada. Neil’s other favorite pastime was dancing. Once he took Olga dancing, there was no separating them. They loved dancing so much, they would dance around the house, particularly in the kitchen. Olga will continue dancing with her Honey in the kitchen until they meet again.

A Celebration of Life will be held on his birthday, November 11th, 2024 at the Alameda House 526 S. Alameda Las Cruces, NM from 2 PM until 6 PM. To plan accordingly, we ask that you RSVP at Loomisrsvp@gmail.com prior to October 25th, 2024. The family would delight in hearing your stories of your time with Neil.

In Lieu of flowers you may make a donation in his Name to Vasculitis Foundation, a US 501 (C) (3) based in Houston, MO. Learn more at Guidestar. Org.
